By: Rev. Terry Carty
Date: 06-03-12
Place: Kingston Springs United Methodist Church
Season: Trinity Sunday, First Sunday After Pentecost, sending of mission team
Main Point: By prayer and other holy habits we come close to God and can ‘hear’ the messages from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides us to go into the world on God’s behalf and do miraculous things.
This sermon was preached extemporaneously using the following outline:
Read Acts 11:19-30 to set context for Saul as a specialist for reaching a new population of converted Gentiles.
Trinity: We know how God works, we know how Jesus works, here is how the Holy Spirit works.
Read Acts 13:1-4 about hearing the Holy Spirit speak
Play the Gossip Game. “Set apart Barnabas and Saul for the work of the Spirit.”
We are unfamiliar with each other’s voices and our minds fill in the parts that we don’t hear well or can’t remember.
But we have heard of people who know each other so well that they can finish each other’s sentences. Some of us here my have that close a relationship.
